The AI Blind Spot Hurting Online Entrepreneurs in 2026

The AI Blind Spot Hurting Online Entrepreneurs in 2026

There is a disturbing trend I am seeing more and more with online entrepreneurs in 2026, and it has everything to do with how AI is being used.

If you think back to 2025, that was the year everyone jumped headfirst into AI tools. The promise was obvious and compelling. Reduce time. Speed things up. Produce more content. Do more without doing it all yourself.

And in many ways, AI delivered on that promise.

But somewhere along the way, something far more dangerous started happening.

Many entrepreneurs stopped using AI as a tool and started treating it as the authority.

When AI Became the Decision Maker

I saw people trusting whatever their AI tool told them as if it were the final word. The output was treated as gospel truth. Not just for research or execution, but for core business decisions.

People began asking AI to:

  • Create their business strategy
  • Decide their marketing direction
  • Define their positioning
  • Tell them what products to offer

In other words, they outsourced the thinking.

And that is where the problem begins.

AI is excellent at answering how-to questions.
How to set up a YouTube live.
How to arrange lighting.
How to structure a workflow.

Those are technical tasks. AI shines there.

But business strategy is not technical. It is contextual, intuitive, and forward-looking.

AI Is Built on the Past, Not the Future

AI can’t predict the future.
It doesn’t understand your lived experience.
It can’t see your blind spots.

AI analyses what already exists.

The data it uses is historical. It’s drawn from what has already happened, what already worked, and what already exists online.

When you build your future purely from past data, you aren’t creating something new.

You’re recreating what already is.

Your current reality is the result of past decisions and past thinking.

Using AI to define your next move simply reinforces the same patterns.

That is why so much AI-generated strategy feels flat when you reread it later. It sounds good on first pass. It feels validating. But when you sit with it, it lacks depth.

It’s generic because it’s come from a soulless computer program used by millions of others.

Why Everyone Is Starting to Sound the Same

AI is designed to generalise, categorise, and summarise. The more people rely on it for strategy, the more similar everyone becomes.

Same language.
Same positioning.
Same offers.
Same content structure.

And when everyone sounds the same, nobody stands out.

This is exactly why so many online businesses struggled in 2025. They were all following AI-generated advice, effectively being coached by the same source.

The result is a sea of sameness.

In 2026, sameness equals invisibility.

Your Competitive Edge Is You

Your business exists because of your insight.
Your lived experience, your deep understanding of the people you help.

The moment you outsource your thinking, you give away your competitive edge.

Yes, AI might speed up your output.
But speed without direction is not growth.

And no, people will not buy simply because you are YOU… if your thinking, strategy, and messaging have been outsourced.

Credibility and authority erode quickly when originality disappears.

What Successful Businesses Are Still Doing

If you look closely, the entrepreneurs who continue to succeed are not the ones who found a shortcut.

They are the ones willing to do the hard things:

  • Deep market positioning
  • Clear go-to-market strategy
  • Iterative offer development
  • Strategic thinking based on their intuition and insights.

These things are uncomfortable precisely because they cannot be automated.

Offer development, in particular, takes patience.

Rarely does the first version work perfectly. It requires testing, refining, and aligning what works for the client with what is sustainable for the business owner.

AI cannot do this work for you.

How to Use AI Without Losing Your Edge

AI is not the enemy.

Used well, it is powerful for:

  • Research
  • Summarising information
  • Extracting insights from large data sets

Even then, it requires human judgment and verification. AI can and does fabricate data. It’s a compulsive liar, designed to please you and keep you asking it more questions!

Blind trust is risky.

The rule is simple.

Use AI to support your thinking, not replace it.

Your brain, your insight, and your perspective are the asset.

Outsource that, and you are left with nothing distinctive.

The Strategy Has Not Changed

I’ve been in the online business space since 2010, and I’ve been developing marketing strategy since the late 90’s - yep long before social media existed!

I’ve seen trends come and go.

The platforms change.
The tools change.
The way we communicate changes.

But the fundamentals of marketing do not.

You still need:

  • Strong market positioning
  • A clear, aligned offer
  • Strategy that connects the two

That pairing is what creates sustainable growth.

AI cannot replace that work. And in 2026, the businesses that remember this will be the ones that thrive.
